We have created a Dance for Wellbeing Programme which we’re sure you’ll love.
60 sessions (recommended 3 sessions per week for 20 weeks)
WHY? NICE guidelines for exercise referral programmes (ERPs) suggest that the most effective ERPs involve getting active multiple times across the week and continuing with physical activities regularly for a long period of time (20 weeks).
We know that dancing contributes to improved health, social engagement, a change in thinking, together with improved physical and emotional wellbeing. However, these benefits don’t all come from one single form of dance and movement (such as ballet or bangra). We know, from research evidence, that different styles of movement and dance contribute to different improvements in a person’s life. That is why Move Assure is based on a variety of different dance and movement styles, so that people can experience the full range of benefits – for optimum wellbeing.
Each session lasts between 16 minutes and 30 minutes. They get longer as the programme goes on
WHY? Short enough to fit into your day
Recommended = 150 minutes per week of moderate to vigorous physical activity. Doing this 3 times per week = just over half your recommended weekly activity – allowing the Move Assure Dance for Wellbeing Programme to be a part of (not all of) your overall activity portfolio – variety is important to keep you motivated.
Starts easy and builds across the 60 sessions
WHY? Optimised for learning and memory
WHAT? You learn each dance in each of three sessions. Towards the end of the programme we’ll dance each dance without instruction.
WHY? This technique recognises how people learn. Combining supportive learning with independent practice.
WHAT? STEP stands for Social, Thinking, Emotion and Physical – and is the link between movement and wellbeing.
WHY? We have looked at each dance from a social, thinking, emotional and physical (STEP) perspective. Each of the 17 Move Assure dances has been considered in terms of their STEP benefits. Understanding how each dance is linked to a particular aspect of wellbeing helps users to contextualise each dance which improves motivation and goal-setting.
WHAT? Original music created specifically for each of the dances
WHY? great for Sensori-motor coordination – builds a sense of familiarity – one cues the other.
WHAT? Define – can be used as part of a workplace wellbeing programme
